Allergy Alert Testing

This will apply if you are having a colour service. We require a simple allergy test to be carried out at least 48 hours before your appointment if you are a new guest or if it has been over 6 months since your last colour application with us.

What is an allergy test?

An allergy test is also simply known as a patch test. Our new skin testing procedure is that we place a small amount of colour and oxidant on the inside of your arm, and it must stay on for 45 minutes. This will determine any possible allergic reactions that may occur without putting you at risk.

Allergies can develop over time so it is possible that you could have an allergic reaction even if you haven’t had one in the past.

This protocol is in place for your overall safety and wellbeing and cannot be waivered.

Why do you need an allergy test?

To guarantee that we can safely apply colour to your hair, we need to know if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients used in our colour formula.

We’re proud of the quality of products we use, and the majority of people never have any reaction to the hair colouring products used, but there are chemicals in dyes which can be hazardous.

Hair colouring products contain many different kinds of chemicals that can cause an allergic reaction when in direct contact with the skin. The majority of hair dyes contain PPD or paraphenylenediamine. This has a strong allergen that can triggers a number of harmful reactions, so, it is necessary to check in a safe way.

What to do if you have an allergic reaction?

If you have a negative reaction to the patch test it will mean you will not be able to complete the colouring appointment. You should let your hair stylist know and contact your doctor to inform them on of having an allergic reaction to Paraphenylenediamine.

Coffee and a skin test?

The new skin test requires that the colour stays on your arm for 45 minutes. You are more than welcome to go and wash it off at home but equally welcome to sit at our bar in the salon and enjoy a cup of coffee whilst is develops.

Many of our guests that have cuts in the salon have the skin test done at the beginning of their appointment. But don’t worry… once you have a skin test you are then covered for 6 months.
